Our stay

We stayed for two nights during our France 2026 campervan trip.

We arrived during an exceptionally hot spell across France, which unfortunately meant our original plan to go canoeing had to be abandoned because of the lack of water.

The campsite is on the southern edge of the Morvan Regional Natural Park. We’d driven through the park to get there and found the journey surprisingly quiet, with very little traffic in front of us, or behind us for a change. There was a little drizzle along the way, but it was one of those drives where the journey itself became part of the experience.

We received a lovely welcome when we arrived and were simply told to choose our own pitch. We picked a flat pitch beside the river, which turned out to be a great spot even if we couldn’t make use of the river in the way we’d originally planned.

First impressions

This is a friendly, straightforward two-star campsite.

It isn’t trying to be anything more than it is, but everything was clean and well looked after. The site is very flat, so we didn’t need chocks to level the van, which was a welcome bonus.

There was a good mix of nationalities during our stay, with mainly Dutch visitors alongside French campers and others passing through.

Pitches & facilities

The shower facilities are basic but very clean and perfectly adequate for a short stay.

There is a small swimming pool, which was particularly welcome during the heatwave. It isn’t a large pool, but it was more than enough to cool down, reduce your body temperature and escape the heat for a while.

There is also a small children’s playground. We had fun playing boules very badly, and even leant the rules this time.

For a couple of nights, we had everything we needed.

Food and evening atmosphere

There is a small bar and snack area on the campsite, so there is an option to get something to eat if you don’t want to cook.

We had pizza during our stay and, with the river running alongside the pitch, had a pretty good view to enjoy it with.

The campsite is also conveniently located for local shops. A supermarket is only a couple of minutes away by bike or around five minutes on foot, with boulangeries nearby for bread and other basics. There are also petrol stations close by.

That makes it an easy place to stay when you need to stock up without having to drive anywhere.

What worked well

The biggest positives for us were the friendly welcome, the cleanliness and the location.

At around €20 a night for two people, it was also a very reasonably priced place to stay.

The river setting would normally be a major attraction, particularly for anyone interested in canoeing or kayaking. We had actually chosen the campsite because canoeing was an option directly from the site.

Unfortunately, the extreme heat meant that wasn’t possible during our visit.

For us, the small pool became the unexpected substitute. On a very hot day, being able to have a quick swim and cool down was genuinely useful – and improved team morale considerably!

Things to know

This is a basic two-star campsite, so it’s best approached with the right expectations, and then be surprised.

There aren’t lots of facilities or organised activities, but if you want somewhere clean, level and friendly to stay for a night or two, it does the job well.

The location also makes it convenient for picking up supplies, with shops and boulangeries within easy walking distance or a short bike ride.

If you’re coming specifically for canoeing, it’s worth checking the conditions before you arrive. We had planned to canoe directly from the campsite but the heatwave meant it wasn’t possible during our stay.

Would we stay again?

Yes.

We’d happily stay here again, particularly if we could make better use of the river next time.

The campsite was clean, friendly and inexpensive, and the riverside location gives it something extra. Our visit was just unlucky in that the heatwave meant our planned canoe trip wasn’t possible, and it was also simply too hot to do much cycling.

Two nights gave us enough time to settle in and enjoy the campsite, even if we didn’t get to do everything we’d originally planned.
